Dear Parents, Alumni, and Friends:
Welcome back to a new
school year and the launch of the Oxford Academy Direct
Investment Drive 2009-2010.
Last year, thanks to your donations, we provided
classroom supplies for all departments and purchased a
copy machine, LCD projectors, and a computer and digital
presenter for each classroom. We were also able to extend
library hours, and purchase books and furniture for
library.
This school year, we
hope to raise enough funds to support the following
projects which will benefit the whole school:
-
Purchase new
equipment for each classroom to be used by both teachers
and students such as laptops, printers, and ELMOs.
[$100,000]
-
Pay for a library
technician to extend library hours from 7:00 am until
4:30 pm daily. [$10,000]
-
Provide each
department with a discretionary budget to spend for
instructional materials, field trips, etc. [$8000]
-
Pay for an additional
counselor. [$40,000]
-
Other additional
needs at the school.
In order to support
these vital projects, we need each and every parent to
give generously. Our goal is 100% participation.
We suggest at least $250 per child. However, we value
and appreciate all donations. Every investment, regardless
of the amount, counts toward our goal of 100%
participation.
There are a couple of
payment options including online credit card payment on
our website (www.oafoundation.org), mailing in your
donation check using the attached return envelope or
dropping it off in the school office on registration day.
To maximize your
donation, don’t forget to ask your employer about a
corporate matching program that could double your
contribution. Every donation is tax deductible and kept
strictly confidential.
Some people ask why we
need to raise money for a public school. The reality is
that California public school funding is among the lowest
in the nation, ranked at 44th in per-pupil
funding. In addition, as a school of choice in the AUHSD,
we do not receive funding that many other schools receive.
We do not receive EIA or ELAP funds because we don’t have
students designated as second language students. We don’t
receive Title 1 funds because we don’t have “at risk”
students. Oxford also does not have a football program
which is a huge money maker for other high schools. This
reality places an even greater financial burden on our
Oxford community.
Now, more than ever,
our children are counting on you. Every contribution makes
a difference. Don’t forget to send in your contribution
today.
On behalf of the
children at Oxford Academy, thank you for investing in
their education.
Sincerely,
Steve Hwangbo
